Product Details

Description: This is a vintage 50s dress with white polka dots against a tomato red background.  It is made with capped sleeves, pleated skirt and cinched waist.  The dress has a high neckline with a small/narrow collar, notched in the front center.  The dress does up with eight plastic buttons with a single rhinestone down the front of the dress - unfortunately, two of the buttons are missing their rhinestone, although this should be easy to replace.  The dress is lined in off-white rayon taffeta - the skirt has an independent sewn-in slip.  The dress cinches at the waist with a red vinyl belt.  The dress has a 5 1/2” hemline that has been hand sewn in place - this could be let down for more length as there is no wear or fading to the bottom crease.  The dress could be worn with a crinoline in order to create a full skirt effect.

Age: 1950s

Label: No label

Color: Red

Material: Nylon georgette with a seersucker like texture

Sizing: No size is indicated, but it should fit a smaller medium size - please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders:  13 3/4” across top, shoulder seam to shoulder seam

Bust: 36” around, taken under the arms

Waist: 28” around, uncinched

Hips:  Full

Hemline:  77” around

Length of bodice:  16 1/2” from top to waistline

Overall length: 39"

Condition:

It is in very good condition, with the exception of the aforementioned missing rhinestones, and a couple of small grayish marks toward the bottom of the skirt that would probably come out with a bit of work.  Other than this, there are a couple of small spots where the dye has run slightly into a polka dot, really very minor.  This dress is actually in great vintage condition and the problems mentioned are all quite negligible.

This is a wonderful 50s period dress - striking pattern.....
